ISLAMABAD:

Shortage of expensive medicines for the treatment of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) has forced patients to purchase them.

Patients are facing a lot of difficulties as the hospital has also run out of stock of life-saving Actemra injections that cost Rs50,000 each, a spokesperson shared on Wednesday.

The non-availability of injections has put the lives of several patients at risk and created room for philanthropists to step in to provide much-needed injections and medicines to the patients, which were previously being provided to them by the government.

Dr Wasim Khawaja said that despite the fact that hospital management is confronted with the problem, all possible efforts are still being made to provide facilities to the patients, including those affected by the COVID-19.
