PFA seals six food outlets

Businesses were found guilty of selling unsafe items

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday sealed six food points over the use of hazardous and prohibited ingredients along with violation of the coronavirus preventive standard operating procedures (SOPs) in the provincial capital.

PFA Director General (DG) Rafaqat Ali Naswana said that the production unit of Bhola Sweets was sealed by the food safety teams for using non-food graded colours and harmful chemicals in their products.

“Karachi Fish storage area in Shalimar area was sealed over broken and rusty deep freezer and lack of cleanliness resulting in a stinky atmosphere,” he added.

He explained that Malik Shahzad Pan Shop was sealed over selling prohibited ‘Gutka’ and a cache of 1,090 sachets were confiscated.

The DG also pointed out that Yasir Bakers was sealed over unavailability of medical certificates of food workers and incomplete labelling on products and Madina Naan Shop was shut down over poor cleanliness and improper storage in Badami Bagh area.

“Gulshan Shireen Sweets and Bakers was sealed by PFA teams on account of use of expired food items and presence of rodents in the production area.”

Naswana said that strict action was being taken to ensure the provision of safe and healthy food to the people.
