Deadline for NADRA arms licenses extended: Rehman Malik

Deadline for computerised arms licenses is September 30, 2011. Old arms licenses will stand invalid from October 1st.

ISLAMABAD:
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday extended the deadline for updating old arms licenses, to the new computerised ones, to September 30, 2011.

According to sources, the Interior Minister chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad and decided to extend the deadline for getting updated computerised arms licenses till September 30th.

Rehman Malik also ordered law enforcement agencies to take stern action against those possessing illegal weapons.

The fee to get new licenses has been set at Rs500 – while applications for the same can be submitted at NADRA zonal offices.

Old arms licenses will stand invalid from October 1st – and only computerized arms licenses will be acceptable.

Sindh Government writes to Federal Government


Meanwhile the Sindh government wrote to the federal government on the issue of illegal weapons in the province, on Tuesday.

The decision was taken in a session regarding illegal weapons that was chaired by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah at the CM house.

A statement released from the CM house said that essential permissions will be taken from the federal government to curb the menace of illegal weapons in the province.

Speaking on the abundance of illegal weapons in Karachi, CM Sindh directed to take effective and immediate steps to get rid of them.

According to available figures, more than 191,000 arms licenses were issued in the province so far while almost 20 illegal weapons were seized on daily basis.

It was also decided that Sindh Home Minister would seek the cooperation of all stakeholders in cleansing the metropolis from illicit weapons.
