Muhafiz Squad cop shot dead on duty

The police personnel were checking on a picket in the Sandal area when armed suspects opened fire

An on-duty police constable was shot dead by unidentified suspects during checking in the Sandal area in the precincts of Gujjar Khan police station on Monday.

The constable of Muhafiz Squad, Naveed Asghar, was busy checking when an assailant killed him firing a single bullet that hit him in the head.

A police spokesperson said that the police personnel were checking on a picket in the Sandal area when armed suspects opened fire upon being signaled to stop.

The victim died on the spot as the bullet penetrated his head. The spokesperson said that the police were finding the suspects and they would be arrested soon.

Last week, Two police officials were killed and three civilians injured after armed suspects opened fire on them at a checkpoint on Murree Road on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the precincts of the Cantonment police station.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a man on foot came close to the police picket, pulled out a weapon and started shooting.

The deceased policemen, were identified as Saeed Ahmed and Muhammad Ali, while the three civilians Sameera, Mohsin – a roadside drummer– and Abubakar were shifted to a nearby hospital
