KARACHI:

After an announcement on the resumption of classes at educational institutions in the country made by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Friday, Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani confirmed later in the day that in-class sessions for grades nine to 12 will resume from January 18.

Speaking to media persons, he further stated that physical classes for the students of grades one to eight and those at universities would resume from February 1, as had been decided at a National Command and Operation Centre meeting held earlier in the day. However, he added, the decision for resumption of primary classes would be finalised at another meeting, keeping in view the pandemic situation.

Meanwhile, the Sindh College Education Department issued a notification announcing the reopening of all government and private colleges in the provinces from January 18. The notification states that colleges' administrations have been directed to ensure the implementation of coronavirus-related standard operating procedures following the reopening of educational institutions, so as to prevent the spread of the contagion. It further mentions that annuals examinations for grades nine to 12 will be held in May and June. The federal government had ordered the closure of educational institutions across the country on November 26, 2020, amid the second wave of the pandemic.
