ATC convicts three in Nankana marriage case
An anti-terrorism court awarded sentences to three convicts and acquitted five others giving them benefit of doubt in case of inciting people against Sikh community whose members were infuriated when a girl embraced Islam married with a Muslim.
The ATC judge awarded two years imprisonment to convict Imran Chishti, an uncle of one Muhammad Ehsan with whom girl Jagjit Kaur who after embracing Islam named herself as Ayesha contracted marriage, also imposed a fine of Rs10,000.
Convicts Muhammad Salman and Muhammad Ahmed were also awarded six-month imprisonment each after their guilt was established by the prosecution.
However, the ATC court acquitted Muhammad Aslam, Adil, Umair, Irfan and Zolifqar giving them the benefit of doubt.
Nankana police had registered an FIR against eight suspects last year. The prosecution implored the court that accused persons incited people against the Sikh community as a result of which panic spread amongst the dwellers of the locality.
