LAHORE:

Provincial Senior and Food Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said that the flour price has declined to its lowest level in seven months across Punjab and a 20kg bag of flour is now available in different cities at a price lower than the government specified rate.

“Due to the integrated policies of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan, the prices of wheat and flour have reduced and for the first time in the month of January the prices fell instead of increasing. The rise in rates in past was usually triggered by wheat and flour illegal stockpiling which did not happen this time,” he enunciated.

“People got relief this time,” the food minister added while reviewing the progress of food department during a meeting held on Tuesday.

Punjab Food Secretary Shehryar Sultan apprised Minister Abdul Aleem Khan about the working of the department as well as wheat distribution to flour mills in the province.

The food minister said that the decision of the PM to import wheat on time has proved beneficial and its positive effects have started coming to the fore.

“Provision of good quality and affordable food to the people is the top priority of the government and the Punjab Food Department and related agencies are continuously monitoring businesses to ensure stability in wheat and flour prices,” he maintained.

He termed the reduction in flour prices as satisfactory and vowed to ensure ample supply of wheat and flour in the market.

Provincial Food Secretary Shehryar Sultan briefed the senior minister about the operations carried out by the authorities to end profiteering and hoarding in different cities of Punjab.

He claimed that timely supply of wheat to flour mills in all districts was ongoing smoothly.
