ISLAMABAD:

While defending the decision to take part in the senate election PML-N central leader Ahsan Iqbal said leaving the space would have allowed the PTI to secure two-thirds majority in the upper house of parliament.

“If the PDM does not take part in the senate election, the ruling party will secure two-thirds majority [in the upper house of parliament]. The PDM aims to defend the Constitution of Pakistan,” he said while speaking to media appearing before an accountability court in the Narowal Sports City reference.

The PML-N leader alleged that the incumbent regime would sabotage the Constitution and change the 18th amendment if they are able to get majority in the senate polls.

He said the 11-party opposition alliance was united on holding a long march against the PTI and on the submission of resignations. He said the federal capital will be packed to capacity when the PDM reaches there.

Iqbal observed that the incumbent regime “lacked” the skill to run the government and noted that the price of ghee had also shot up while it was difficult for the people to make their ends meet.

Meanwhile, an accountability court adjourned the hearing on Narowal Sports City reference against the PML-N leader until January 27.

Judge Syed Asghar Ali conducted the hearing in the reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau alleging that Iqbal had misused his powers to spend federation's funds in the provincial project.
