National Covid tally nears 500,000 mark
The national tally of active Covid-19 cases reached 33,474 on Saturday with 2,007 more people tested positive for coronavirus as against 1,617 people recovering from the disease during the last 24 hours, according to the National command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
The NCOC said in its latest update that 40 Covid-19 patients, 33 of whom were under treatment at hospitals, including 16 on ventilators, and seven at their homes or in quarantines, died on Friday. It added that most of the deaths occurred in Punjab, followed by the Sindh. The NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government unified campaign against the pandemic, said that there was no Covid affected person on ventilator in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), while 305 ventilators were occupied elsewhere in the country. It added that the maximum ventilators were occupied in Multan, 44%; Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 40%; Bahawalpur, 45%, and Lahore, 33%.
The maximum Oxygen beds were occupied in Peshawar, 54%; Multan, 36%; Karachi, 35%; and ICT 29%.According to the daily bulletin, 40,898 tests were conducted across the country on Friday, including 12,904 in Sindh, 15,438 in Punjab, 6,246 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), 4,980 in ICT, 613 in Balochistan, 374 in G-B, and 343 in AJK.Since the pandemic outbreak, a total of 499,517 cases were detected that also included 10,598 deaths. However, 455,445 people have recovered from the diseaseso far, making it a significant recovery ratio of 86%.So far, Sindh had registered the highest number of Covid cases with 224,004 infections, followed by Punjab with 144,111 cases.
However, the highest death toll is in Punjab, where 4,242 patients died, followed by Sindh with 3,679 fatalities.According to the NCOC a total of 7,043,604 corona tests have been conducted so far, while 631 hospitals are equipped with Covid facilities. Some 2,779 corona patients were admitted to hospitals across the country, as of Saturday.
