SSR’s space film to be revived as a 'tribute’

Actor had visited NASA to experience the life as an astronaut

The upcoming film Chanda Mama Door Ke, publicised as India’s first ever space film, was to star late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. It is said that his role will be revived as stated by the director Sanjay Puran Singh. The project was announced in 2017 and originally had Rajput playing the role of an astronaut. However, the Dil Bechara actor left the project due to multiple delays a year after its initial announcement.

Now, after the shocking demise of the actor back in June, director Singh wishes to revive Chanda Mama Door Ke as a tribute. Singh said, “The film is not shelved. I hope I will be able to translate on screen what I have visualised in my head and put on paper. That said, I am not reviving it right away as it has not been even a year to Sushant’s passing; his loss has been emotionally exhausting.”

Singh shared how the MS Dhoni star was ‘attached’ to the film and his role as an astronaut, which is why he plans to make it as a tribune. “Whenever I make the film, it will be a tribute to Sushant. He was so attached to the script that I owe this to him. He had given a lot of inputs to the material,” Singh said.

Rajput had been preparing for the role in 2017 which is why he visited the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to get a first-hand experience of an astronauts’ life.
