ISLAMABAD:

The district administration has imposed a ban on new constructions in different sectors of Islamabad on demand of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA).

Unable to stop land grabbers from encroaching on its real estate, the authority rushed to the district administration for protection.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat has received an application from the FGEHA that illegal construction was under way on properties owned by the authority in various sectors of the capital.

Subsequently, on directions of Islamabad DC, the Additional District Magistrate Rana Muhammad Waqar imposed section 144 in Sectors F-12, G-12, and Moharyan Park Road. A notification in this regard has been issued on Thursday as per which the ban will remain enforced for two months.

As per the circular, complete documents and legal authority would be required for new constructions in the related sectors. The Islamabad administration has warned that the violators will be met with strict action.

FGEHA is required to clear it’s built up property (BUP) dues worth over Rs6 billion for sub-sectors G-14/1, 2 and 3.

It has to make payments to the people whose built up properties were demolished during the land acquisition process for developing the sector.

The award for BUPs in sub-sectors G-14/1 and 2 is yet to be made as the survey is currently underway while Rs1.889 billion has been awarded as compensation for 529 BUPs in sub-sector G-14/3 by the Land Acquisition Collector (LAC) office, an official shared on Thursday.

FGEHA has started only five housing schemes in the federal capital during the past decade, but all of them have been mired in red-tape, litigation and other issues.

These schemes include Green Enclave-I, Green Enclave-II in Bhara Kahu, Thallian Housing Scheme, Park Road Housing Scheme and housing projects in sectors F-14 and F-15.

However, people have yet to get physical possession of plots in these schemes which remain under development.

The authority received around Rs23.235 billion from eligible members who had expressed their consent to get residential plots in multiple residential schemes in the federal capital, said an official document.

The FGEHA issued consent letters to its members for the housing schemes including Green Enclave-I, Green Enclave-II, Thallian Scheme, housing schemes in Sectors F-14 and F-15 and Park Road Housing Scheme.

The authority received a further Rs1.075 billion from members of GE-I, Rs6.016 billion from GE-II, over Rs11.88 billion from people who had booked plots in sectors F-14 and F-15, at least Rs2.46 from members of the Thallian Housing scheme and Rs1.8 billion from plots booked in the Park Road Housing Scheme.
