Court acquits MQM-P sector in-charge
A local court acquitted on Wednesday Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P’s) Lines Area sector in-charge Ali Hassan Zaidi in a case pertaining to attack on a local leader of the Awami National Party.
An additional district and sessions judge was hearing the plea challenging the accusations against the MQM-P member at City Court Karachi.
At the hearing, the prosecution failed to prove accusations against Zaidi.
Hence, the court acquitted Zaidi on the basis a lack of evidence.
The court also directed the police to release Zaidi immediately, provided that he was not accused in any other case.
According to the police, Zaidi was booked for attacking an ANP leader on March 31, 2012.
Separately, the East judicial magistrate sent a food delivery rider accused of robbing citizens at gunpoint, on three-day physical remand.
Ferozabad Police produced the accused, Abdur Rauf, before the court.
During the hearing, Rauf maintained that he resorted to attempting theft as he did not have the money to feed his child.
The investigation officer informed the court that the accused would rob citizens when they would open their door to receive food that they had ordered online. The investigation officer maintained that the accused has confessed to carrying out 21 robberies at gunpoint. He added that a pistol and Rs4,000 cash, stolen from a citizen, was confiscated from the suspect.
The police are trying to arrest the accomplices of the accused, added the investigation officer.
The court handed over the accused to the police for three-day physical remand and directed the investigation officer to submit the case challan.
Citizens had caught Rauf while he was trying to escape after looting a citizen at gunpoint in the limits of Ferozabad Police Station on Tuesday.
They later handed him over to the police.
According to Ferozabad SHO Aurangzeb Khattak, Rauf was making away with Rs15,000 he had snatched from a citizen, when the latter created a hue and cry. As a result, area residents caught Rauf and handed him over to the police, the SHO said.
