Three of a family perish as van overturns

Driver lost control over steering wheel while avoiding roadside tree

Three members of a family were killed while five others suffered injuries when a van overturned while avoiding hitting a roadside tree on Kamalia road on Sunday.

According to the police report, the accident took place near Khan Da Chak where the passenger van travelling from Faisalabad to Vehari overturned after its driver lost control over the steering wheel.

The accident took place within the limits of Kamalia Saddar police station.

As a result of the incident, Abdur Rauf Butt, Khalida and Farida died on the spot, while Sofia Aslam, Shugufta, Farooq, Mubbashir and six-year-old Arham suffered multiple injuries.

The injured were shifted to Chichawatni Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. The condition of three injured victims was critical, while others had minor injuries. All the victims reportedly belonged to the same family of Vehari district.

The family was returning to Vehari from Faisalabad.

Upon receiving information about the accident, the Chichawatni Rescue 1122 team immediately reached the site. After initial medical aid, the injured and the bodies were shifted to the hospital. There were 12 people in the van, including two children.

Police were investigating the incident.

In an earlier accident involving multiple deaths of members of the same family, a lawyer, his wife, son and mother-in-law were killed and two sons were seriously injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Dijkot on October 5.

The advocate, a resident of Sammundri, was going to his hometown from Faisalabad along with his family when his car collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction near Darbar Baba Riaz Shah. The collision was so severe that both cars were badly damaged.

The lawyer, his eight-month-old son and mother-in-law were killed on the spot as a result of the accident.

On September 20, at least five members of a family were killed on Gojra Motorway while travelling from Lahore to Layyah after their car collided with a tractor trolley.

A man, his two sons and a couple were killed, while an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in the accident.

Muhammad Imran, 35, a resident of Chowk Azam Layyah, planned to leave for Libya and his family went to see him off from the Lahore Airport in a car. They were told that Imran’s flight to Libya had been delayed for four days. The family members were going back from Lahore to Layyah on the motorway when the driver fell asleep and the car collided head-on with the tractor on the motorway M4 near Chak No 350GB. The car was badly damaged in the collision.

On July 26, a speeding truck crushed five people travelling on a motorcycle to death on GT Road. The victims belonged to the same family.

The victims were traveling on the motorcycle on GT Road to visit relatives when a recklessly driven truck coming from the opposite direction slammed into the two-wheeler, killing all five members of the family.

The truck driver managed to escape from the scene.

On June 15, at least six members of a family going to attend a Valima ceremony were killed when a van caught fire after an accident on the motorway near Gojra.

The deceased included two children and a woman, while 10 people, including six children, were injured.

On May 27, six members of a family, including two women and two children, were killed and two minors were injured when a car hit a dumper truck on the motorway in Muridwala.
