Islamabad police chief forms JIT to probe youth's murder

Sessions court grants three-day physical remand of arrested cops

The Islamabad chief commissioner has set up a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under Section 19 of the Anti-Terrorism Act to probe the death of young Osama Satti who was shot dead by police in the G-10 area two days ago, Express reported.

According to the notification, the JIT will be headed by SP President Sarfraz Virk. Apart from DSP Ramna Police Station, DSP Investigation and SHO Ramna Police Station, one representative each from the Inter Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence and Intelligence Bureau  will also be part of the JIT.

On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar has also announced to raise the incident in the Senate committee of human rights. He said weapons should be the last resort, adding that the matter will be taken up in the January 6th session.

Osama Satti was shot dead by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) personnel in the G-10 area of ​​Islamabad on the night between Friday and Saturday.

According to reports, the 22-year-old was coming after dropping his friend in the area of ​​Shams Colony.

Speaking to Express, Farrukh Satti, cousin of the slain youth, said that ATS personnel were on patrol in the area and had asked Osama to pull over. However, when he did not stop, they opened indiscriminate fire on him.

The police claims that they tried to stop the suspicious vehicle with tinted windows and opened fire when the driver did not stop.

The spokesperson clarified that the police chased the vehicle till G-10 and when it did not stop they fired at the tires of the vehicle. Unfortunately, the fire hit the driver of the vehicle which resulted in his death.

Five policemen were arrested in the murder case.

Physical remand

The arrested policemen were presented before the additional district and sessions court of judge Shehzad Khan on Sunday.

The court granted a three-day physical remand of the cops against the request for a five-day remand.

On asking whether the weapon had been recovered, the court was informed that it was yet to be recovered.

Moreover, the court was informed that the five cops were arrested since they were all assigned to the same patrol vehicle.
