Sindh Government spokesperson Barrister Murtaza Wahab said on Saturday that the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) had expired on December 31 and the federal government was aware that it did not have the required votes in the National Assembly to pass the PIDA Ordinance.

Murtaza was addressing a press conference, where he maintained that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI's) allies, too, would not support it on the PIDA. He added that the controversial ordinance should be abolished.

He mentioned that a Sindh Assembly session would convene on January 6.

"We also intend to promulgate a law against the use of synthetic drugs. Under the law, the users of drugs, such as Ice could be booked and prosecuted effectively," he said. He maintained that the provincial government was reforming the criminal justice system.
