The federal and Punjab governments released grants worth Rs1 billion for 70 union councils of the metropolitan corporation while new development schemes worth Rs7.5 million each were also sought for all union councils, a spokesperson shared on Friday.

He added that tenders for these schemes will be issued in January and development work will start in February. The spokesperson further informed that the administration has invited bids for neighbourhood-level projects of water, electricity, gas, sewerage, and drainage and communication schemes for the union councils as well.

He stated that work orders in this regard will be issued during the first 10 days of February. Meanwhile, Federal Parliamentary Secretary Sheikh Rashid Shafique mentioned that he and Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid received the MNA grant of Rs300 million from the federal government for the constituencies of NA-60 and 62.

He added that a new Girls' Degree College will also be set up in both the constituencies. The parliamentary secretary further shared that new computerised commercial parking plazas are being constructed on City Saddar Road, Fawara Chowk, Bani Chowk and Commercial Market areas to solve the traffic and parking woes of the locals.
