Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday congratulated Pakistani exporters on achieving "record exports in December 2020 with a growth of 18 per cent over the previous year."

"Well done and keep up this trend," the premier wrote on his official Twitter handle.

"A major pillar of our government's economic policy is export enhancement and we will provide full support to promote export culture," he further said.

Earlier during the day, PM Imran stated that the country was moving in the right direction with the policies aimed at bringing people out of poverty through wealth creation.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of new vehicles being introduced in Pakistan, the premier said the government will incentivise the business community and the industrial sector that will lead to increased exports.

“Wealth creation through exports will be used for uplifting the living standard of the ordinary people in the country,” he underscored.

In earlier tweets, the premier said that 2020 was a tough year for not only Pakistan but the whole world because of the coronavirus, but by the grace of Allah, Pakistan fared much better than most countries.

“We not only managed to protect our people but also saved them from hunger. We are moving forward to making Pakistan a welfare state,” he said.

He further stated that the government aims to introduce two major public welfare objectives during the current year— ensuring universal health coverage through Health Card Scheme and launching of an initiative under Ehsaas Programme to make sure that no one goes to bed hungry.
