The Supreme Court issued notices to the Sindh chief secretary and other relevant officials on Thursday over a plea seeking the promotion of a grade-17 mechanical engineer, Ashraf Ali Jumani.

The bench was informed that Jumani hadn’t been promoted for the past 30 years.

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that his client was appointed as a mechanical engineer on a BS-17 post in 1999, and has been working on the same post since then. A summary of the matter was sent to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and the provincial chief secretary, he said, adding that Jumani’s retirement was due in 2021. Yet, he is not being promoted, the counsel stated. The court issued notices to Chief Secretary Sindh and other officials and adjourned the hearing.
