The Supreme Court rejected on Thursday a plea seeking the reinstatement of a dismissed policeman, Saeedur Rehman, who had been nominated in a murder case.

At the hearing, the three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Paksitan Gulzar Ahmed, pointed out to the petitioner’s counsel that he hadn’t completed department proceedings in connection with the plea.

When the CJP remarked that Rehman was booked in a murder case, his counsel contended that a trial court had acquitted his client for the lack of evidence in a 2006 murder case, following the registration of which Rehman had been dismissed from duty.

“But you challenged a ruling issued in 2006 in 2017,” the court stated, addressing Rehman. “The long gap has weakened your stance.” The court then dismissed Rehman’s plea.
