Joint efforts can bring UAE firms to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan and United Arab Emirates have the potential to collaborate in hospitality, retail, services and manufacturing sectors, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan.

In an interview with Arab News on Tuesday, he said Pakistan was working to find additional areas of collaboration to fill the gaps and boost bilateral trade.

“Many international brands based in UAE are not present in Pakistan therefore both sides can collaborate to bring them to Islamabad,” he said.

He pointed out that there were a lot of companies in UAE which specialised in manufacturing of tiles and other products. Khan detailed that distribution of such companies was going through European and Chinese markets.

“We are looking at the prospects of encouraging those companies to bring their products and services to Pakistan,” he said.

The official stressed that UAE-based hotel chains could also be encouraged to enter the Pakistani market in a bid to boost the tourism sector. “We will visit the Emirates next month for a meeting with officials from UAE Chamber of Commerce and other trade chambers,” he said. “We will ask the UAE government through the chamber to facilitate Pakistanis in attaining business visas.”

He added that Pakistan and UAE were working on a new economic roadmap aimed at boosting bilateral trade volume and establishing joint ventures.
