Govt vows to support cement industry

Punjab minister assures cooperation in increasing production capacity of plants

LAHORE:

Investors are being provided facilities on priority basis to promote the cement industry, said Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal.

After a meeting with Dhan Cement CEO Anwarul Haq Shad, Iqbal informed the media that five line departments have been directed to issue no-objection certificates (NOCs) within 90 days.

He said five companies have been issued the NOCs. The provincial minister said cement was an exportable item and no hurdle would be tolerated in increasing the production capacity of the plants.

The government would provide every possible facility to Dhan Cement for restoration of their mining lease and setting up their cement plant, he promised.

The minister added that the government had also ensured that new cement plants’ NOCs were issued in time as it was committed to providing facilities to the overseas investors, he added.

During the meeting, they discussed mining lease in Kattas and an NOC for installation of a coloured cement plant, which would also be used as an alternative to paint.

Haq said coloured cement was in great demand in the Gulf countries and requested the minister to restore the mining lease along with resolving the NOC issue.
