KARACHI:

The police arrested a man on Sunday on charges of suffocating his wife to death with a pillow at their house in New Karachi.

According to SHO Younis Khattak, the brother of the deceased woman, Noorain, 26, contacted Madadgar-15 police, alleging that his brother-in-law had killed his sister.

However, by the time the police reached the house, the body had already been shifted to a morgue near UP Morr, from where cops shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities, the SHO said.

Noorain's brother, Ishtiaq, told the police that his niece called him at 6am on Sunday and told him that her father, Kaleem Shehzad, had killed her mother by suffocating her with a pillow. He said his niece said her parents had had a fight the previous night and Shehzad had left the house when she called him.

SHO Khattak said Ishtiaq reached Noorain's house and rushed her to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead after an examination.

Ishtiaq then transferred the body to the morgue and called the police to lodge a complaint.

According to the SHO, the body bore no torture marks or wounds. The cause of the death will be ascertained after the release of the postmortem report, he said.

Later, when Shehzad returned home for lunch, the police arrested him, and have started interrogating him.

Noorain had two daughters and her husband, accused of killing her, is a rickshaw driver.
