Robert Rodriguez ‘We Can Be Heroes’ receives mixed reviews

The movie released on Christmas alongside ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ that sparked a debate on social media

Streaming Service, Netlfix original We Can Be Heroes can either be labelled a sort-of sequel or quasi-spinoff of 2005's The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, said Pinkvilla. The spin-off is considered to provide fun holiday family viewing as it did with The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

The prolific director Robert Rodriguez is known for his take on the Spy Kids franchise as well as the original Sharkboy and Lavagirl. As usual, he has personally taken on most of the film's responsibilities, serving as writer, producer, director, director of photography and editor.

But he's also subcontracted many of the creative chores to his children: son Racer Max, who formed the characters of Sharkboy and Lavagirl when he was only 7, serves as a producer and has an onscreen cameo; son Rebel composed the film's score; son Rogue designed the alien spaceship that figures highly in the prolonged climax; and daughter Rhiannon came up with many of the female characters' attributes.

The feature that should predominantly please younger audience is that the superheroes are not only the adults but also their children who can be heroes and save the day by fighting against giant tentacle alien assailants.

Whereas the movie is a sequel to an old classic, both Millennials and Generation Z are up to debates on social media, have a look:

An old fan of the director took to Twitter, “I mean I’m 23 years old, it’s Christmas morning and there’s a new Robert Rodriguez film out that has Sharkboy and Lavagirl’s kid in it?? I feel like a kid again.”

Another critic added, “While this Robert film is made for kids, its leadership and youth empowerment themes should resonate well with the whole family. It's a visual treat, pokes fun at "adult" superhero films, and features adorable kid leads at the center.”

On the other hand majority confused with the plot had to say, “Pedro Pascal is a Jedi and Christian slater is a Mandalorian? What is happening in this kids movie exactly?”

Lastly, a fan in adoration tweeted, “This is the energy I'm taking with me into 2021.”
