Government incentivises canola farming

The official advised the growers to cultivate approved canola varieties as they are disease resistant

FAISALABAD:

The government in a bid to reduce oilseed imports has offered incentives to the farmers for enhancing the production of canola in the province.

In this connection Rs5,000 subsidy per acre on canola cultivation was being given to the farmers, said Divisional Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Abdul Hameed.

He maintained that the government set canola cultivation target of 24,612 acres of land in the four districts of Faisalabad division and to date it has been sown on 6,604 acres of land. So far 26.83% target of canola cultivation has been achieved and the remaining would be achieved soon, he added.

He said that in Faisalabad district, canola was planted on 1,401 acres against a target of 17,249 acres.

In Jhang, canola cultivation surpassed its target as it was cultivated on 4,575 acres against the target of 3,892 acres due to the strenuous efforts of the field staff.

The official advised the growers to cultivate approved canola varieties as they are disease resistant and give a bumper yield.
