Govt urged to facilitate development of Gwadar

ABAD chairman says construction package will steer country towards growth

Builders have appreciated the present government for allotting construction sector the status of an industry keeping in view the importance of this sector.

Addressing an event on Thursday, Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) Chairman Fayyaz Ilyas lamented that development of the construction sector had been ignored for more than the past five decades.

He said that the comprehensive construction package, announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan, will help steer the country towards economic development.

Also speaking on the occasion, ABAD former chairman Mohsin Sheikhani urged the government to introduce business friendly policies at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and other similar departments for economic growth of Pakistan.

“NAB and FIA are making running businesses difficult and investors are afraid of unwarranted actions by the two institutions, which affect industrial activities,” said Sheikhani.

He pointed out that Pakistan was ranked 108 among 190 economies in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business (EODB) index, which had improved due to consistent effort to make the environment conducive for business activities.

Detailing further, Sheikhani said that since 2016, almost 300 reforms have been implemented to improve the investment climate in the country and as a result, Pakistan jumped 39 positions in EODB ranking during the last two years.

He underlined that Pakistan was recognised as the top reformer in South Asia and sixth reformer in the world.

Talking about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the former ABAD official said that Gwadar was emerging as a hub of business and development but unfortunately local builders and developers were not allowed to participate in development of the port city.

He urged the government to take steps aimed at facilitating local builders and developers.
