Federal oard to end supplementary exams
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has decided to do away with supplementary examinations.
Instead, it has decided to introduce a second annual exam in the academic year, akin to the system followed by the Cambridge examination systems.
Earlier in December, the board of governors of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) met to deliberate on several measures. The meeting was chaired by FBISE Chairman Qaiser Alam.
Among others, board members discussed the issue of supplementary examinations.
It was decided that the supplementary exams systems should be abolished. Instead, two regular examinations should be held annually.
Board members reasoned that by doing so, all students will be able to apply as regular students in either the first or second annual examinations, or both.
Further, students will be allowed to appear in matriculation and intermediate examinations twice.
The board further approved a move to abolish the requirement of a school-leaving certificate while applying for admissions.
Moreover, the FBISE board decided to make 12 key services available at the one-window operations centre at the board’s head office.
This includes duplicate certificates, no-objection certificates (NOC), certification and verification of certificates, migration certificates, and cancellation of results. It has also been decided to set up a separate window for senior citizens and women.
FBISE Chairman Alam has issued instructions to further expedite these facilities and resolve all issues of students within 30 minutes
In this regard, he directed that duplicate certificates will be processed and issued immediately after the collection of bank fees.
Meanwhile, sources in the board told The Express Tribune that a one-window operation facility will also offer correction of names (spelling, caste inclusion) without requiring orders from the relevant court.
However, all such cases will be referred to a committee formed by the board. Cases regarding the change in date of birth will also be dealt with by this committee. Students can apply for rectification of date of birth within 15-years of their birth year.
