Senate chairman, deputy at odds over session requisition

The deputy chairman says that the Senate chairman could not block the resolution and privilege motion

ISLAMABAD:

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sadiq Sanjarani and Deputy Chairman Salim Mandiwala have come face to face over the matter of tabling a resolution against National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal and summoning him to the upper house of parliament.

Sanjarani is persistently trying to save the NAB chairman, therefore, he has raised objections to the requisition filed for summoning the Senate session on this matter. The opposition has voiced strong protest over it and decided to file the requisition again on Monday.

Sources said that the Senate chairman had returned the requisition by raising objections that the requisition was not in line with rules and regulations. The Senate Secretariat had also objected to the agenda given in respect of Senate session.

The Senate Secretariat had raised objection the rules were very clear on requisitioning a session. During the session convened on requisition, privilege motion and resolution could not be approved but different problems could be put to debate through motions.

The deputy chairman protested strongly against it, saying that the Senate chairman could not block the resolution and privilege motion against the NAB chairman. Opposition Leader in Senate Raja Zafarul Haq has said that he would file a new requisition on Monday.
