After being in quarantine the past week, renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel on Saturday tested negative for Covid-19.

"With your prayers, my coronavirus test has returned negative," the well-known religious scholar announced on his Twitter handle. He asked the masses to pray for his full recovery from the deadly disease, which has so far claimed 9,250 lives and infected over 454,000 people in the country.

Earlier on December 13, Maulana Tariq Jameel was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

Jameel is one of the most popular Islamic clerics in the country and belongs to the Tableeghi Jamaat. His lectures focus on the subject of self-purification, avoidance of violence, observance of Allah’s orders and pursuing the way of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

He has been named among 500 most influential Muslims in the world by Royal Aal al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought in Jordan from 2013 to 2019.
