ISLAMABAD:

Life as we know it has been disrupted by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, causing the government to impose strict restrictions on outdoor movement.

However, it has failed to dampen the spirits of the local Christian who have been preparing for Christmas with usual zeal. Members of the local Christian community, unfazed by the second wave of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), are busy preparing for Christmas and have been thronging the markets for purchasing decorations, Christmas cards, presents and new clothes to go with the event.

The only thing that is different so far for them is the adoption of the standards of procedures (SOPs) prescribed by the government to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19). “We cannot leave our celebrations due to the pandemic as this occasion is very special to us,” said Sarah Masih in the capital. We will pray for the protection of the whole of humanity on this special occasion, she added. She urged that on this festive occasion, people should create a peaceful society and end hatred, prejudices and extremism.

Aasiya, another young girl, said, “I have finalised my preparations for celebrating this years’ Christmas festival with my family.” “This festival has great significance for the whole community as this is the time to spread love amongst all,” she said. However, due to the deadly second wave of the virus, she urged people to avoid large gatherings. She shared that this year, she plans to organise only a small party at her house where only her family will be invited to stay safe from the deadly virus. “My children are more excited to decorate the Christmas tree in our home before the festival rolls around as they have become bored due to the closure of educational institutions,” said Younas, a father of three.

He added that they have finalised their preparations for the big day, having bought new dresses, shoes and accessories for the family. Now we just only have to buy Christmas presents and order a cake, he added. D
