Regulator questions about contracts with suppliers, customers, capacity allocation

Official says region offers attractive opportunities in many areas Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Additional Inspector General Faheem Ahmed Abbasi has urged the business community to capitalise on potential investment opportunities in the AJK region.

During a visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), he said that AJK offered attractive investment possibilities in many areas including hydroelectric power, tourism, mining, furniture and handicrafts that should be exploited by the local and overseas Pakistanis to achieve a lucrative outcome.

He said that AJK had the lowest crime rate due to which it was one of the most secure places for investment and tourism.

“More awareness needs to be created among businessmen and investors of Pakistan that AJK offers tremendous investment prospects at natural scenic locations, which are still untapped and explored.”

He added that the government was offering good incentives and concessions to the investors through its industrial policy for promoting investment in AJK.

He said that investment by Pakistani businessmen and investors in AJK would not only enable them to achieve profitable results, but would also put the region on the path of rapid progress and prosperity.

The AJK official also urged the Islamabad Chamber to play its role in bringing investors to AJK for exploring potential opportunities of joint ventures and investment.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said that the AJK government should devise more conducive policies for infrastructure development through the public-private partnership model.

He said that AJK had good potential to promote construction, IT and telecom, manufacturing and services industries for which good incentives, more favourable environment and improved infrastructure were needed.

He assured the AJK official that ICCI would play a role in highlighting the business and investment potential of the region to attract more investment so that the country could achieve sustainable economic growth and create more jobs for the people.
