Disney blocks Johnny Depp cameo in next 'Pirates'
Disney has blocked Johnny Depp from making a returning cameo appearance to the super popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, reported Daily Mail. He played the melodramatic Captain Jack Sparrow in the films, which even earned him an Academy Award nomination.
A recent report has revealed that the studio had blocked the actor’s return following his recent court battle against ex-wife Amber Heard. According to the report, producer Jerry Bruckheimer had wanted to include Depp in the upcoming film even if it was for just a cameo. However "Disney balked," due to the reputation risk it would pose for the family-friendly media giant.
Depp has been through multiple personal battles in recent years, with the latest being a legal battle with a British tabloid that called him a "wife-beater" in which he suffered an embarrassing loss. As a result, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actor – once, one of Hollywood’s most sought-after heroes – has also been dropped from the Fantastic Beasts franchise he had been a part of for years.
Just last month, Depp lost the libel case to Heard, with the court verdict deeming him guilty of all that the latter had accused him of. Since then, the Hollywood heartthrob has been in dire straits, losing one project after another.
