PM Imran Khan recommends reading 'History of the Pathans'

Prime Minister Imran Khan has recommended another read, and this time it is about Pathan tribes like his, who migrated to the subcontinent and contributed to shaping its history.

Taking to his Instagram on Sunday, Khan wrote "This month I recommend the book History of the Pathans by Brig (r) Haroon Rashid, Volume 7, which I am reading."

He continued, "It is about Pathan tribes like mine who came to India from Afghanistan in the last thousand years and settled in various parts of India. It traces the role they played in shaping the history of India."

Khan had earlier recommended Capitalism's Achilles Heel in Novemeber, "an eye-opening account of how white collar criminals, businessmen and politicians illegally launder dirty money, and its impact on individuals, institutions and countries."

And prior to this in October, he urged the country's youth to read Elif Shafak's Forty Rules of Love in his attempt to bring them closer to Islam. The premier said it had deeply inspired too. "An inspirational book about divine love, Sufism, Rumi and his Murshid Shams Tabriz. I read it a few years back and was deeply inspired," he noted. 

Khan's love for history and enthusiasm to learn from it can be traced back to his first recommendation in May, when he asked his followers to read the Lost Islamic History, when the lockdown had only initiated.

In a tweet, the premier had said that the book elaborates on the rich history of the Islamic civilisations and the factors that led to their decline. “A great read for our youth during lockdown days. An excellent brief history of the driving force that made Islamic civilisation the greatest of its time and then the factors behind its decline,” the premier wrote on twitter.

Nevertheless, here's to dedicating an entire book shelf featuring the PM's recommendations and hopefully finding the time to actually read from it soon.
