Coronavirus claims another medic’s life

The novel coronavirus pandemic has claimed another medical professional in the province, raising the toll of doctors and paramedics succumbing to the virus to 45.

Professor Zaibun Nisa, the head of the pathology department at the Kabir Medical College in Peshawar died of the novel coronavirus (Covid) on Saturday.

Officials of the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), in a statement on Saturday, said that the former head of pathology at the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH), had been admitted to a private hospital almost a week ago after becoming infected with the virus.

Her condition soon deteriorated and on Saturday she breathed her last. After completing all formalities, she was laid to rest in Hayatabad while observing all Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

PDA officials said that so far, the virus has claimed the lives of 28 doctors in the province along with 11 paramedics and nurses.

After Prof Nisa’s demise, the association reiterated its demand that the government provide medical professionals health risk allowance.
