Nowshera Economic Zone inaugurated

The government hopes to raise Rs1.6 billion through initial investment in the zone

PESHAWAR:

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Wednesday broke ground for the Nowshera Economic Zone (Extension) Project and distributed allotment letters to investors who will set up industrial units.

The 76 acres Nowshera Economic Zone (NEZ) can accommodate over 60 industrial units and is expected to create over 12,000 jobs directly and indirectly.

The government hopes to raise Rs1.6 billion through initial investment in the zone.

Addressing investors at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mahmood termed the zone another milestone for the rapid industrial growth of the province and in creating jobs for the people.

“The extension of the Nowshera Economic Zone will play a vital role in bringing a new era of industrial development in the province,” he said.

Earlier, CM Mahmood was briefed about various aspects of the project. He was told that it is close to the Azakhel Dry Port of Peshawar and the Islamabad Motorway, thus offering enterprising locals an ideal launchpad to expand their industries particularly those who were targeting areas such as Afghanistan, Central Asia and China.

He was further told that an access road to the project site has been completed and industrial units have been demarcated while work on internal infrastructure is in progress.
