LAHORE:

An accountability court in Lahore on Tuesday declared Nusrat Shehbaz, wife of Opposition leader in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif, absconder in the money laundering and assets beyond means case.

During the case proceedings, the prosecutor stated that one month had passed since the summons were issued but Nusrat failed to appear before the court.

Shehbaz’s son, daughter, and son-in-law among others have already been declared absconders in the case.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz and his son Hamza Shehbaz appeared before court amid tight security. The cross examination of the witnesses was supposed to be conducted during the hearing.

However, the court was informed that the senior counsel of the defendants was not available and was busy in a case in the apex court over which, the court expressed annoyance.

Shehbaz maintained that the jail authorities had neither provided him his medical reports nor a physiotherapist. The judge replied that they had earlier issued directions in this regard.

The PML-N leader further noted that while serving as chief minister, he had not drawn salary nor received any other privileges.

The judge restrained Shehbaz from making statements saying everything was noted in the court and asked him to present his case through his counsel.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until December 12.
