Former and current Fisheries DGs nabbed

It is pertinent to mention that the contracts were awarded to companies building houses and roads

QUETTA:

The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Balochistan chapter has arrested former coastal development secretary, former DG Fisheries Aftab Ahmed Baloch and incumbent DG Fisheries Munir Musyani from Quetta in a Rs1 billion corruption case.

“The accused took advantage of the prevailing coronavirus situation and inflicted irreparable damage on the national exchequer by awarding valuable government contracts to unrelated companies in defiance of prevailing laws and government orders,” a NAB official said.

He added that, “during the preliminary inquiry against the senior officers, it was revealed that the former Secretary Coastal Development and Fisheries and the present DG Fisheries had procured green fiber glass boats, vessel monitoring system, C-ambulance and patrolling boats.”

It is pertinent to mention that the contracts were awarded to companies building houses and roads that were neither registered with the Mercantile Marine Department nor had the required experience and qualifications for the sector.
