Average 179 crimes reported daily in metropolis

As many as 5,735 crimes were reported in the port city during November, with increasing incidents of mobile phones, motorcycles and car snatchings at gunpoint. According to the monthly crime report released by the Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Tuesday, on average, 179 street crimes were reported daily in Karachi, with seven being reported every hour during the month.

The statistics issued by the CPLC document that 3,172 motorcycles were stolen in the provincial capital and 205 were snatched at gunpoint. Of the stolen motorcycles only 193 have been recovered by law enforcing agencies.

Moreover, a total of 1,842 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint, out of which 221 were recovered.

As many as 141 cars were stolen and 14 were snatched at gunpoint. However, law enforcement agencies could recover only 33 of the stolen and snatched car.

CPLC’s report also revealed that three incidents of extortion and 31 murders were reported in the city during the past month.
