Ahad and I keep our lives private: Sajal Aly

The talented starlet talks DIAFA honour, married life and upcoming projects

Sajal Aly is a force to be reckoned with. The actor, in quite a short time, has made a name for herself in the Pakistani industry and overseas. Recently, she was recognised for her contribution to films and television at the annual Distinctive International Arab Festivals Awards (DIAFA) as well.

Aly's awe-inspiring journey has been one for the books. "I'm really honoured to be here with such amazing actors and amazing people. I'm extremely thankful to all my fans for believing in me. Thank you DIAFA for this honour," she had said in her acceptance speech. In a recent interview with the Dubai-based newspaper Khaleej Times, the actor counted her blessings and shared how lucky she has been when it comes to her work.

"I think I am truly blessed and lucky. I don’t want to even think for a moment that I deserve this more than anyone else. I have done my work with full honesty and it has been a rewarding year," the Ye Dil Mera star told the publication. "My fans and family have been my pillar of strength and I would like to dedicate this success to them. I have always been selective about the work that I like to do but getting an opportunity like that most of the time is also a blessing. I am truly humbled and blessed."

Apart from her professional front, Aly has often been in news for her personal life as well. She tied the knot with heartthrob Ahad Raza Mir in March this year, in a rather low-key affair. The wedding took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where just the close family and friends of the couple were invited. The fairy-tale event made headlines and the couple seemed ecstatic.

But unlike other Pakistani celebrity couples, we don't see Aly or Mir sharing pictures of themselves on Instagram. Aly said they like to keep their private life, private. "Ahad and I both feel that our private life is not for public consumption. Additionally, this year when we got married, the situation around the world wasn’t too favourable," she continued. "Because of the virus, people have suffered losses of life and health. Amidst all this, I don’t think it would be wise to flash all those pictures of excursions and celebrations. My prayers are for all those who are suffering in these times."

The couple has worked together onscreen quite a few times too. Their obvious sizzling chemistry has always been lauded by the audience and they are, yet again, coming together for another show: Dhoop ki Deewar, a Pakistani original which is being produced by Indian streaming platform, Zee5.

Talking about the recent ban on the OTT platform, Aly remarked, "Having more and more mediums of entertainment is always a good idea. It opens avenues for the talent out there. It exposes you to new audiences. I am not too aware of what is happening on the Zee5 ban and its current status. But, I know that this is going to be resolved soon. Every now and then these issues crop up. I feel this is a temporary situation."

As for making a comeback on the big screen, the starlet said, "I haven’t signed on the dotted line but there are a few things in the pipeline. Inshallah, I will share the news with all of you soon."
