As part of the International Human Rights Day, the provincial government has launched a week-long awareness campaign.
The campaign was launched at an event in Peshawar on Monday, under the slogan “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stands for Human Rights and Inclusive Recovery.” The event, attended by a limited number of people who strictly observed all novel coronavirus (Covid-19) standard operating procedures (SOPs), was held together with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
The event raised public awareness on human rights principles and Pakistan’s national and international commitments to human rights, particularly the rights of marginalized communities including women, people with disabilities and transgender people who have faced additional rights-based challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Secretary Masood Ahmad said that the provincial government was taking all possible measures to ensure that the rights of its citizens are protected, especially those who are vulnerable and marginalized.
“Although International Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10 each year, we in K-P are taking the opportunity to observe and celebrate human rights progress and International Human Rights Day for the entirety of this week,” he said.
