Husband, mother-in-law claim Aiman died of natural causes

Rhetoric on the social media over the death of a student of psychology prompted police to open probe into the case.

Police have recorded statement of the husband and mother-in-law of third-year psychology student Aiman Shafiq.

Sadiqabad police officials told The Express Tribune that friends of Aiman had highlighted the mysterious death and the hushed up funeral of the victim on social media.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus taking notice of the matter Sadiqabad police station SHO Tahir Rehan to register a case, carry out exhumation of the victim’s body and conduct an autopsy.

According to police officials, Sadiqabad police summoned the student's husband Sharjeel and his mother, who are residents of Kotli Satyan, and recorded their initial statements.

The suspects maintained that the student's death was biological and rejected murder allegations on them.

Sources in the police said that the deceased and her husband were cousins and lived in the same house on separate floors. However, Aiman’s father had passed away.

Sadiqabad SHO Tahir Rehan said that they would take the court’s permission for the exhumation of the victim’s grave on Tuesday (today). Along with it, the police would obtain summons of both Sharjeel and his mother as well.

An autopsy will be conducted after which the situation will be clarified, SHO said.
