Police seize 400 bottles of spurious liquor

Alleged bootleggers abandon car and escape

ISLAMABAD:

Police on Sunday claimed to have seized 400 bottles of liquor from a car, although the driver and his companion escaped.

A squad of Karachi Company police checked a vehicle and recovered liquor bottles, however, they said the occupants managed to flee after abandoning the vehicle.

The home brewed liquor was filled in bottles of foreign and local brands, piolice said adding such drinks could be poisonous. Sale of spurious liquor shoots up near Christmas and the New Year due to obvious reasons, a police official said.

Meanwhile, the Aabpara police arrested Mobeen and recovered a 30 bore pistol from his possession while the Margalla police arrested Khalid and Sohaib, and recovered two 30 bore pistols from them.

Similarly, the Nilore police arrested a suspect named Rizwan and recovered a 30 bore pistol from his possession whereas Sihala police arrested a suspect named Rehmat and recovered an 8mm gun from him.

A Ramna police team arrested Nazeer Masih and allegedly recovered 10 litres of homemade liquor from him. Koral police claimed to have arrested two alleged motorcycle lifters, Jahanzaib and Abdullah, and recovered stolen motorcycles from their possession.

Additionally, the homicide unit of the Islamabad Police arrested a suspect named Arshad for his involvement in a murder case. Separate cases were registered against the accused as further investigation is underway.

The Operations DIG Waqaruddin Syed appreciated the performance of the police teams and directed further effective measures against those involved in bootlegging and other anti-social activities.
