Sindh reports 1,615 more infections, another 15 deaths
As Sindh reported 1,615 fresh coronavirus cases and 15 more deaths on Thursday, the provincial health minister, Dr Azra Pechuho, warned that the virus was likely to spread faster now than it had in the summer.
According to a statement issued by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on the day, 13,339 samples were tested between Wednesday and Thursday and 1,615 new infections were detected. Another 1,831 persons recovered from the virus in the same duration while 15 more people succumbed to the virus.
Sindh’s tally of confirmed cases stands at 179,240, out while 2,983 persons have died.
There are currently 20,223 known active cases in province, said Shah, with 734 patients in critical condition.
Rapid spread
Meanwhile, in a statement, Dr Pechuho voiced concern over the sharp rise in cases during the second wave of the pandemic, noting that as many as 600 additional cases were detected in a single day.
She was comparing the number of cases detected on Tuesday and Wednesday, with 1,333 recorded on the former and 1,983 on the latter, indicating an additional 600 new infections overnight.
The number of cases will be higher now than it was during the summer, warned Dr Pechuho as she urged citizens to take precautions.
