Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan has fixed the hearing of arguments on a plea challenging the appointment of Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Broadcasting.

Petitioner Chaudhry Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, an Advocate of the Supreme Court, contended that the chief minister appointed Awan as Special Assistant through a notification on November 2 in disregard to a verdict of the country’s top court. The petitioner added that the Supreme Court had observed that prima facie Awan was guilty of contempt under article 204(2b) of the Constitution.

He said the chief minister, by appointing Awan under The Punjab Special Assistant (salary, allowance & privileges) Ordinance 2002, had violated the guidelines of the apex court, which was disrespectful to the sanctity and dignity attached to it.
