Lockdown imposed in 12 areas
The Rawalpindi district administration, acting on the advice of the Punjab Health Ministry, imposed smart lockdowns in 12 more areas of the district on Monday. Punjab Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Muhammad Usman has issued a notification in this regard too.
According to the notification, the 12 areas including eight in Rawalpindi city, three in Gujjar Khan and one in Wah Cantt have been sealed from November 29 midnight till December 8.
These areas include Airport Housing Society ,Mirza Colony, Tench Bhata, Street 3, Block A, Tehmasamabad, Block D, Sattelite Town, New Malpur 7th Road, Satelite Town, Shaheen Town Phase II, Dhoke Kangal, Gulzar Quaid, Street 17, and Farooq Azam Road in Rawalpindi, Barki Jadeed, Jermote Kalan and Mohalla Zargaran in Gujar Khan and Lalarukh area in Wah Cantt. The notification said that the decision was taken in larger public interest and was taken in exercise of powers conferred under section 4 c,5(1)e,5(1)(f) of the Punjab Infectious Diseases (Prevention and Control) Act 2020 to ensure public safety, control exit and entry and conserve lives.
There will be controlled entry and exit in the said areas identified as hotspots of the viral disease, the notification elaborated. Shopping malls, restaurants, private and government offices will be closed in the lockdown areas and there will be a ban on mass gatherings. All medical services, laboratories, and their collection points, hospitals, and clinics will remain operational round the clock whereas shops dealing in essential items will remain open from 7am up to 9pm.
Contagion claims five lives The deadly novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) claimed five more lives in Rawalpindi, while 144 more people have tested positive for the contagion during the last 24 hours. National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Monday said that 341 new Covid-19 cases were reported from the federal capital during the last 24 hours.
According to an official of NCOC, as many as 355 cases were reported on Sunday while 447 cases were reported on Saturday which was the highest number of cases reported in a day during last two months. A statement issued by the office of the Rawalpindi commissioner on Monday said 137 cases were confirmed from the district while seven belonged to other districts. Of these, 40 were reported from Potohar Town, 35 in Rawalpindi Cantt, 53 in Rawal Town, three from Gujar Khan, two from Taxila, two from Kahuta and one each from Kalar Sayyedan and Kotli Sattian. Cops contract Covid Around 11 officials of Rawalpindi police have contracted Covid-19 while one succumbed to it. CPO Ahsan Younus directed all officers to wear facemasks.
