Defence production autarky to meet future challenges: COAS
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa termed the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) a force behind the armed forces as it served as the backbone of the defence of Pakistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday.
The army chief visited the POF in Wah, where he was given a detailed briefing on the performance of various production units, the media wing of the military said. Speaking on the occasion, Gen Bajwa appreciated the management and staff of the POF for their dedication to optimise the output.
Army Chief Gen Bajwa said that technological upgradation or modernisation and indigenous development to attain self-reliance in defence production was vital to meet the challenges of future battlefield.
The briefing, the ISPR said, focused on targets achieved, future projects, envisaged modernisation for cost-effective and sustainable production and acquisition of modern technology in line with the prevailing operational requirements of the Pakistan armed forces. The COAS was also apprised of the POF’s endeavours for international ventures, focusing on exports to contribute to the national exchequer.
Later Gen Bajwa visited the display lounge, where the newly developed defence products were showcased. Earlier on arrival, the chief of army staff was received by POF Chairman Lt Gen Bilal Akbar, the ISPR said.
