GLOF-II project to be expanded to three K-P valleys
The Scaling-up of Glacial Lake Outburst Flood Risk Reduction in Northern Pakistan (GLOF-II) project of the United Nations Development Programme will be expanded to three valleys of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
This was disclosed as stakeholders met on Wednesday for the second provincial project steering committee (PPSC) for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) reviewed the progress made on the project. K-P Planning Department’s Chief Economist Nauman Afridi chaired the meeting and reviewed the progress of the Annual Work Plan (AWP) 2020, endorse the most vulnerable valleys under the project, and reviewed the AWP for 2021, in consultation with the provincial PSC members.
The PPSC approved all the activities proposed for 2021, including the three valleys remaining in K-P for National PSC to notify. Key activities in 2021 will include the development of small-scale infrastructure, irrigation channel repairs, slope stabilization activities, community-based interventions by establishing safe-havens, safe access routes, and kitchen gardening.
PPSC members also discussed the provincial planning for disaster risk reduction.
