RAWALPINDI:

A day after a ban was imposed in neighbouring Islamabad, sanitation officials in Rawalpindi on Tuesday urged residents to avoid burning garbage, plastic bags, tires and other items to control the intensity of smog.

Teams of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) and the sanitation contractor Albayrak, on Tuesday, briefed the general public about precautionary measures that must be taken against smog besides urging them not to set garbage on fire and minimize the use of smoke-emitting vehicles.

An RWMC spokesperson said that residents, shopkeepers, traders and clerics were requested to follow the standard operating procedures prescribed by the government for the novel coronavirus (Covid-1), such as washing hands with soap for 20 seconds, keeping distance with other people, wearing masks, avoiding large gatherings, covering the nose and face if there is flu or cough. Precautionary measures regarding dengue fever were also highlighted.
