PESHAWAR:

With a surge in novel coronavirus being reported in the city and the administrators expecting a spike following the large public gatherings in the region recently, The Hayatabad Medical Complex has decided to expand its ward dedicated for patients infected by the pandemic virus.

The Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) administration on Monday said that they have dedicated around 150 beds for novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients. Of these, 90 beds are currently occupied by patients.

The hospital management said that another 60 more beds will be allocated in the third phase area.

Arrangements to increase beds, intensive care units (ICU), and ventilators on an emergency basis have also been completed.

Meanwhile, the healthcare facility has restricted services and access to the Outpatient Department (OPDs) and other elective services. The entry of visitors in HMC has also been banned to restrict the number of people who are entering the facility, while admission without masks is also prohibited, they added.

Further, two large isolation zones have been established for infected patients including private rooms and an orthopaedic department.

The HMC management further said that 12-beds have been allocated for ICU while the emergency service in the gynaecology and cardiology departments, as well as the day care, will continue around the clock.

Some 90 nurses and 24 paramedics have been deployed under the Covid-19 emergency programme along with the staff of the district administration to oversee arrangements and facilities.

HMC officials assured that free pathological facilities and medicines will be provided to patients of the pandemic virus.
