Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Sunday inaugurated the Insaf Medicine Card scheme for providing medicines free of charge patients of hepatitis, AIDS and tuberculosis. The chief minister distributed Insaf Medicine Cards among patients during a ceremony held at his office.
He said on the occasion that in the first phase of the project medicines will be provided free of charge to 9,862 patients of AIDS, 23,560 of hepatitis and 70,047 of TB. Under a simple procedure adopted to facilitate the patients, they will be biometrically verified along with the original national identity card from their tehsil or district headquarters hospital. After completion of the verification procedure and diagnosis, the Insaf Medicine Card will be issued to the patient.
The patients will be able to take free medicines from the centres set up for the purpose.
The chief minister said projects like the Punjab Ehsas Programme, Sahat Insaf Card and now Insaf Medicine Card were proof of the fact that the country was progressing in the direction of welfare. He ordered setting up of separate desks for hepatitis, AIDS and TB patients under the scheme.
A total of 174,882 patients in 36 districts of Punjab will receive Insaf Medicine Cards.
The chief minister asserted that the day was not far when every citizen of Punjab would have access to free treatment in public sector hospitals as per the government’s commitment.
