New museums
In order to preserve the rich historical and cultural heritage of Sindh, the provincial government plans to establish four new museums in different parts of the province. The new museums will help people of Sindh and of the world to know more about the rich and variegated history of this ancient land. Sindh is a continuous historical entity and its history goes back to 7,500 years. The province is home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation whose main city was Moen Jo Daro. The Indus Valley Civilisation existed in 5500-3500 BC. Cities and villages of the Indus Valley were well planned where hygiene and cleanliness were paid meticulous attention. The province is dotted with historical sites from the ancient, medieval and modern periods. It is the responsibility of all inhabitants of the land to preserve this immense wealth of history and culture bequeathed to us from our ancestors. The provincial government is alive to this task and making all efforts to preserve the historical sites and objects. Now there are seven museums in Sindh.
The four new museums would be established in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Khairpur Mirs and Umerkot, where local historical objects would be housed. Gradually, the provincial government plans to set up museums in all districts. In these museums, historical objects will be preserved for posterity giving them an idea of the rich history of the land. The museum in Hyderabad will be housed in the historical Mukhi House, already a heritage site, to pay homage to the family that built the historically famous residential building, which has long been a cultural landmark of the city and of the province. The museum in Umerkot will house musical instruments and other objects, from various periods of history, of the Thar region. However, we should not be content with being the mere inheritors of a well-ordered ancient civilisation, we should also contribute to progress of the modern civilisation. Windows should be kept open for fresh air.
